Here's a little preview of what's to come from Rob:

The sun moves through all twelve signs of the zodiac in a twelve month period. We are currently in Gemini (May 20- June 21 for 2014) and then it shifts into Cancer ( June 21-July 22, 2014). Depending on your personal chart this shift from fun loving Gemini to nurturing Cancer may be subtle or it can knock you over.

Do you have certain months every year that are easier than others? Maybe you have a certain month or two that you always feel run down or just ‘uncomfortable” in your own skin. Many times that can be explained by the way your personal energies mix with the current placement of the Sun.

So what will we feel as the sun enters Cancer? FEEL is the emphasized word with Cancer. Actually each sign has a phrase that describes it. For Cancer it is I FEEL.

A few years back there was a pop song that captured the Cancer essence— it can apply to men and women……..

This is the story of a girl

Who cried a river and drowned the whole world

And while she looked so sad in photographs

I absolutely love her

When she smiles

When she smiles!

Cancer is passive, receptive and emotional by nature. In esoteric text, Cancer is said to be represented by “the restless tides of the ocean, the surging and ebbing of emotions.” Each sign of the Zodiac rules certain areas of the body. Cancer rules the breasts, stomach and solar plexus. These are areas we are all familiar with when we hold or experience intense emotions. Right? We get that ‘gut’ feeling.

Cancer and the 4th house which it rules naturally, also represent mothering, sustaining, nurturing, the home and the womb. The Cancer symbol is represented by the Crab which carries its house with it, whether on land or sea so it can retreat at any time to a safe place when it feels threatened.

Are you getting the impression that the Cancer energy can experience mood swings. It is a definite possibility especially for someone who has come to identify life with living in Emotion. You don’t have to be a Cancer to live this way, but you might find you have some major Cancer influences in your life if you do.

The planetary ruler of Cancer is the Moon. The Moon rules the emotions. So in the Season of Cancer, we can find ourselves feeling more emotional, sensitive and at the mercy of mood swings. BUT—— when Cancer finds its inner center and moves from there it becomes more stable and and a lot less emotionally insecure. And at the point we experience the ultimate nurturer, the sustainer and protector.

One astrologer I follow, says that the Cancer energy is so moody because if remembers the Womb. It has in its cells the memory of floating free with all its needs met. It longs for that again. Is it possible to find that feeling once we are outside the womb? Hmmmm…………

That brings us to the Cosmic Womb which is the archetype of Cancer. Through this cosmic womb everything is birthed. The Great Mother (Magna Mater) has been and is still celebrated in many cultures and mythologies. We can read the stories of Kali in Hindu mythology, or Demeter in the Greek pantheon and the Virgin Mary- as Queen of Heaven in Catholicism.

Everything is birthed through the Cosmic Womb—- individuals but also every aspect of creativity. Maybe you can feel a hint of Shakti there. Yes all creation is birthed through the cosmic womb.

During the Cancer season we also celebrate the birth of this country on July 4th. The USA is a Cancer nation.

Many of the founding fathers were registered Masons. The Masons, at that time had a rigorous education for its members. One subject included astrology. So many through out history have hypothesized that the birth of the USA was hand picked. No matter who you feel about astrology and the history of the USA, our country was born under the sign of Cancer which is the most feminine, mothering and protective of the signs To underscore our Cancer roots, read the poem affixed to the base of the Statue of Liberty. You get a feel for Cancer in its true glory as mother and protector in its true evolved sense of goddess strength.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she

With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

We will play around with much of this in the AstroAsana class for Cancer on Friday June 20, 5:45pm. We will be welcoming the Cancer Sun and the Summer Solstice which officially make their entrance on June 21, at 6:51 am.
