Enter Libra ~ AstroAsana for September

The longer I live the more I believe that everything happens for a reason. For some that statement can seem a little overwhelming but really it can be like a game you play with the Universe— or whatever term you use for the creative force of the Universe.

If everything is connected and is happening for a reason, you get to look at each moment of your life and ask yourself —why? and what’s the meaning? There is no greater way to explore your life than to ask questions and dig deep.

Back to “Everything happens for a reason”—- I have wondered why we began the AstroAsana series with Gemini, the third sign of the zodiac rather than Aries the first. On one level it’s because the idea came up between Kate and us during Aries- March 27 and then with schedules, etc, it wasn’t until Gemini that we could get it together. But I always think about the bigger “why”.

I think a glimpse of an answer came to me as I researched Libra for this month’s class. In yogic terms it is perfect that we started with with the Mutable air sign Gemini, the first air sign of the zodiac, because it represents the MIND. More specifically, it represents the lower mind or the “citta”. It is at this level of the mind that we come to see “Self” and “Not Self”. We can see it as the origin of the Dualism or a belief in opposites that is an underlying principle in our existence.

Yoga Sutra #2: Yogas citta vrtti nirodhah “The restraint of the modifications of the mind stuff is yoga.”

Enter this month’s Astro-Energy, Libra. Libra is the second air sign of the Zodiac, a Cardinal leader energy that is more about the “super mind” , the mind that steps out of ego and allows us to synthesis. As the Libra energy illuminates the lower mind represented by Gemini, it allows us to find a balance between what is perceived as Opposites.

The Movement or evolution of the air signs is what we are doing in our yogic practices. We quiet the lower mind and allow an awakening to happen that shows us what we perceive as opposites is merely a veil of illusion.

The Libra energy can seem to have a hard time making a decision. It can spend too much time on the “mental” aspects and the “what if’s” of a decision. Libra is the polar opposite of the fast moving, often time reactionary sign of Aries. Libra is about bringing balance.

As the season of Libra enters our world (September 22- October 23) appreciate the fact that you might find yourself slowing down to consider all aspects of a subject, a decision—- your life.Let yourself stand in the middle and consider the whole spectrum of possibilities. See if you can find the middle ground where the perceived opposites of our life start to blend into Truth.

Join us Saturday September 27, 4:30-6:30pm at Shine Yoga, 3330 Erie Ave for the journey of Libra in our AstroAsana series. We will explore stories of Goddesses and the Bhagavad Gita as we weave the tale of Balance through an awesome Asana practice.

Remember you don’t have to be a Libra to enjoy this class. You can find out much about the energy coming our way as we enter the Libra season or join us to just get your asana on!

Namaste; Rob and Steve
